The Center for Integrative Medicine at University of Maryland School of Medicine, in collaboration with The Center for Addiction, Personality, and Emotion Research at University of Maryland (CP), will offer a comprehensive smoking cession program to help employees of Kernan Hospital, UMMS, & UPI quit smoking. Instructor is Kevin Chen, PhD.
Highlights of the Program
- Comprehensive and sophisticated psychotherapy supported by NIDA
- Craving control through acupressure, breathing & meditation techniques
- Reduction of withdrawal symptoms by acupressure and nicotine patches
- Effective stress management through biofeedback and meditation
- Motivation enhancement (psychotherapy, quitting game, lectures, etc.)
- Network support (involve your friends and family with support letters)
- Contingency management (reward system, positive reinforcement)
- Relapse prevention (trigger recognition, behavior modification, etc.)
- Program format: 5 weekly gatherings (90 minutes each), plus individual consultations as needed, and 1 and 3 month follow-up.

$300 for general public
$150 for Kernan, UMMS, and UPI employees

- Nicotine patches (optional, for 3 weeks)
- A MP3 player (for relaxation & meditation training)
- EZ-Air software (bio-feedback program)
- An audio CD
- Treatment manual
- 4 weeks of auricular acupressure treatment
