Postdoctoral Fellow Position

We are currently looking to fill a position for a postdoctoral candidate beginning February 2008 to investigate effects of acupuncture on chemotherapy-induced pain in a rat model at the Center for Integrative Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore.

The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences. Experience in behavior, immunohistochemistry, neuroanatomy, and molecular neurobiology is desirable, but must have strength in at least one of these areas.

Center for Integrative Medicine at University of Maryland School of Medicine has 1-2 research assistant position open, starting immediately. The starting salary is $13.50 to $14.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Job Qualifications
At least two-years of college education, able to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week on the job; good communication and writing skills, and detail-oriented. Experience or interested in research issues related to complementary and alternative medicine, bio-energy medicine (such as qigong), substance abuse, and/or health psychology are definitely a plus. Bilingual (English and Chinese) candidate will have priority consideration. If you are looking for independent research with credit, or a possible data set for your thesis or dissertation, this will definitely provide you with many opportunities to learn, to explore, and to interact with some of the finest researchers in the country. The experience will no doubt complement your resume and provide a foundation for a future career in research.

Job Description
Assist the principal investigator in different research projects -- clinical study of qigong therapy for arthritis or pain management, and meditation or self-enhancement therapy for treating drug addiction. Major duties include helping with literature review, preparing the paperwork for study sessions, coordinating clinical session with subjects, conducting follow-up interview with subjects, and help translating or editing some Chinese literature and review (if bilingual). This position provides a lot of opportunities to learn and to do research. Excellent working environment with opportunities to interact with some leading researchers.
