MagyariTrish Magyari, M.S., has 22 years experience as a counselor, educator and researcher, and 28 years as a meditation practitioner. She has been on the faculty of Georgetown University Medical Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, The National Institutes of Health, and is currently on the faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Initially trained as a genetic counselor, Ms. Magyari began studying Mind-Body techniques early in her career, and has over the years studied a variety of meditative practices, as well as yoga, guided imagery, authentic movement, tai chi, chi gong, chanting and breath-work, among others. She began practicing Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), as developed at the University of Massachusetts, in 1987, and in 2000, completed the highest level of training offered in this field (the Teacher Development Intensive). She has led Mind-Body groups for the past 15 years, including groups for people with chronic pain, for HIV positive persons, for those with chronic illness, and for those with a variety of stress-related concerns; in 2000 she conducted a pilot clinical trial at NIH for persons with a hereditary connective tissue disorder involving chronic pain. She currently contributes significantly to our research and clinical efforts in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), offers classes for the general public, continuing education for health professionals, training for medical students. Trish believes that every one of us has rich inner resources which can be developed for self-healing and for achieving a sense of balance and wholeness in our lives.
