The following is a partial listing of professional organizations pertaining to complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine. These sites are not affiliated with the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and as such inclusion in this listing does not imply an endorsement of these organizations or the content of these sites.
American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA)
"The AHMA was founded in 1978 to unite licensed physicians who practice
holistic medicine. AHMA membership is open to licensed medical doctors (MDs)
and doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) from every specialty, and the medical
students studying for those degrees. Associate membership is also open to those
health care practitioners certified, registered, or licensed in the state in
which they practice."

Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA)
"The AHNA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization whose membership
is open to nurses and other individuals interested in holistically-oriented
health care practices throughout the United States and the world. AHNA supports
the education of nurses, allied health practitioners, and the general public on
health-related issues."
American
Medical Student Association (AMSA)
AMSA is the oldest and largest independent association of
physicians-in-training in the United States. It is a student-governed, national
organization committed to representing the concerns of
physicians-in-training.
Bravewell
Collaborative for Integrative Medicine
The Bravewell Collaborative (formerly the Philanthropic Collaborative for
Integrative Medicine) exists to bring about optimal health and healing for
individuals and society.
Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine
(CAHCIM)
Supported by a grant from the Bravewell Collaborative for Integrative Medicine.
Membership includes 39 academic medical
centers with programs in integrative medicine.
International
Society for Complementary Medicine Research (ISCMR)
"The International Society for Complementary Medicine Research is a worldwide
not-for-profit professional association devoted to fostering co-operative and
multidisciplinary research and development as well as the application of
knowledge in the fields of Complementary, Traditional and Integrated
Medicine."
Society for
Acupuncture Research
The Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR) is a non-profit
organization which sponsors annual symposia on research methodologies in
acupuncture and Oriental medicine. SAR is currently guided by
Co-Presidents
Lixing Lao and Rosa
Schnver. Their mission is to promote, advance and disseminate
scientific inquiry into Oriental medicine systems, which include acupuncture,
herbal therapy and other modalities.
