Niya specializes in Integrative Eclectic Shiatsu, which is defined by the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia as a style of Shiatsu that "utilizes Japanese Shiatsu techniques, Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and Western methods of soft tissue manipulation. Dietary and herbal methods are also included to create a comprehensive integrated treatment method."
Shiatsu (she-ot-sue) is a relaxing, bodywork therapy. It shares the same therapeutic principles of Asian healing arts such as acupuncture, but Shiatsu does not use needles. Shiatsu combines gentle stretching with manual application of pressure along the acupuncture meridians and acupoints. It is performed without massage oils or creams on a fully clothed client. It can be used for stress management, pain management, digestive complaints, fatigue, sleeplessness, muscle aches and strains, and additional conditions.
